Volunteer Training & Preparing for Tax Season
Training for volunteers with the DC EITC Campaign takes place in December and January, with classes available during weeknights or weekends. Most classes will be held at either the Georgetown University Law Center or the American University Washington College of Law. The classes are led by experienced Campaign volunteers who use materials developed by the IRS, supplemented by additional information based on Campaign procedures and previous experience.
In addition to the training required for each position (see charts below for position-specific training), ALL volunteers with the DC EITC Campaign must complete the IRS Volunteer Standards of Conduct training. This will be included with the Certification class for new preparers. Returning volunteers have the option of completing this requirement online. When you report to your tax site for orientation, you will have to present your Volunteer Agreement, along with a photo ID, to your Site Coordinator.
If you have any questions about the training process, check out the Training FAQ’s on the website.

All tax sites will hold an orientation session on-site, usually the week prior to the opening of the site. Once you have signed up for a shift at a tax site and registered for training, you will be contacted by your Site Coordinator with more information about the orientation session. Most tax sites will open the week of January 28, 2013. All sites will be open by the first week of February.
